>> May 22, 2007 - What’s happening in South America?

South America’s pharmaceutical market has seen an above average growth and is playing an increasingly important role in this specific region.

Brazil in particular but also Argentina, Chile, Colombia and the other countries in the region have been growing at double figure rates and catching up with other important emerging markets such as China, India and Russia.

In Brazil the growing needs of the local pharmaceutical industry were recognised in the vibrant FCE show held in Sao Paulo between 14th and 16th of May.

Roquette as a worldwide partner for the pharmaceutical industry has been working in the region through dedicated local structures such as the Labonathus agency in Brazil. Roquette’s excipients and actives are used and renowned worldwide, and Brazil is no exception. Roquette’s pharmaceutical products have been represented locally by leading company, Labonathus, for many years.

To further strengthen our position in this market Roquette participated with Labonathus in the FCE show: customers were received, new interests were developed and deeper relationships were forged.

The event drew large crowds into the Sao Paulo exhibition centre, testimony to the interest and thriving force of the pharmaceutical sector in the region.

“Labonathus, under the management of M Helvio Collino has been a real ambassador of our products in Brazil” says Veronique Aro, Roquette’s sales manager for South America. “The Labonathus team has been criss-crossing this country, giving true quality support to our customers.”

Visitors from abroad were received by Roquette’s local representatives:
Ferromet for Argentina, Blumos for Chile, Nandina EIRL for Peru, Rhodia for Columbia and Insuquim for Paraguay.

Project Development Manager, Mr Raphael Collino acknowledged that the local expertise is astonishing: “There is a wealth of formulation experience that is just incredible. The industry is becoming increasingly interested in high quality ingredients to match this formulation potential”. “This is the place for high quality reliable excipients”.

Potential development opportunities established during meetings and contacts made will be followed up by pharmacists and commercial teams, both locally and from Head Office.

The active role of Roquette in the pharmaceutical sector, as an excipients and injectable solutions producer has once again been demonstrated.
